10 Ways to Have Fun and Stay Cool This Summer
10 Ways to Have Fun and Stay Cool This Summer
We all love the fun activities, longer days, and all the bright colors of nature that come with summer, but sometimes the heat can be a bit overwhelming! If you’re looking to have fun AND stay cool this summer, we’ve got the perfect activities for you! Try them out with friends, family, or the kids, and have the best summer yet!
1. Pool Party
A great way to stay cool is, of course, to jump in the pool! There are a ton of fun pool games to play with your family and friends like marco-polo, volleyball, diving games, and more. Don’t forget to put out some summer snacks and beverages, and don’t be afraid to get wet! If you have pool floaties, be sure to throw those in for the kids to play on or you to relax on.
2. Sprinklers
If you don’t have a pool at your house, sprinklers are a great alternative to keeping cool at home. Run through the sprinklers, or make a game of who can jump the highest over them. Another fun idea is to put the sprinkler under a trampoline or swing set so the kids can get some of their energy out without overheating. Sprinklers can be fun in lots of different ways!
3. Water Park
Take the action from your house to a water park! Whether it’s a large park with slides and rides or a local park with fountains, it’s never a bad idea to take the kids somewhere they don’t normally get to go. Visit Point Mallard Park in Decatur, Wild Water in Cullman, or make a day trip of it and visit a big water park: Splash Adventure Water Park in Bessemer! Whichever you choose, your kids are sure to have a great time splashing, sliding, and swimming!
4. Homemade Popsicles
Popsicles are a delicious and fun way to stay cool, and they’re so easy to make! Blend up your favorite fruits and water in a blender, pour it into a popsicle mold, and leave in the freezer for a couple hours or until completely frozen. You can also make popsicles from your favorite juice or smoothie recipe, so there’s plenty of room to get creative.
5. Obstacle Course
Make an indoor obstacle course using furniture, pillows, blankets, and carpets to create a unique layout in your home! Be sure to take the right safety precautions by using cushions around any jumps or balance beams, and watch out for dangerous furniture corners.
You could also rent a blow up obstacle course for the kids to play on in the backyard. Invite over your friends, family, and neighbors for a fun day with friends. The kids will sleep extra well tonight!
6. Swimming
Swimming is the perfect summer activity, especially for hot days. You can visit a public pool, one of Alabama’s many lakes or rivers, or take a two or three day trip down to the beach! Make sure you bring sunscreen though, since you’re more likely to get burned from wind and underwater than you might think!
7. Indoor Arcades
The games don’t have to stay outside, with a trip to the indoor arcade you can spend the whole day in air conditioning while still running around and having fun. Stars and Strikes is an indoor center in Huntsville that has everything from bowling and laser tag to arcade games. There’s something for everyone here!
8. Make Ice Cream
Making ice cream at home is the perfect way to stay cool indoors while making a sweet cold treat to enjoy outdoors in the heat. Nothing beats a classic ice cream cone in the summer! You can make ice cream with or without a machine–whatever you have at home can work. Check out some of our favorite ice cream recipes here.
9. At-Home Car Wash
Whoever said car washing couldn’t be fun didn’t know what they were talking about! Bust out the soap and hose and get your car looking nice and shiny while staying cool in the water. Kids love to help out with big family tasks like this, and can be very good at helping you get those windows shining.
10. Water Balloon Battle
Another family activity is a water balloon battle! This simple and easy activity can be done right in your backyard and is super affordable. Simply pick up some water balloons, divide the family into teams or have a free-for-all, and let the fight begin! Invite over some friends and neighbors to join in the fun and keep everyone cool.
